Childers is a smallish outback country town located in the southern half of Queensland. It is located about 40 kms from the ocean and has an approximate population of 1,500.

It is located about 315 km's from Brisbane, on the Bruce Highway, which should take about 3.5 - 4 hours to drive, if you don't make any long stops along the way.

It is about 50 km's south of Bundaberg. You can find rail and bus services that travel to Childers daily from both Brisbane and Bundaberg. However, it is best to have your own transport so you can get from farm to farm.

Its postcode is 4660, which makes it an area eligible for backpackers and people wanting to come and work and travel Australia to extend their Working Holiday Visa to an Extended Working Holiday Visa.

Best time to find fruit picking work in Childers

There are a large number of different crops grown around Childers. The very best months to go are November to December when there is a lot of work in the vegetable fields, and in February picking mangoes.

Depending on the season, you should be able to find work in most other months, but I recommend you organise a job before going, otherwise you may find there is no work for you.
