It is located on the Castlereagh Highway and the Balonne River. It is surrounded by extensive cotton fields, and Cubbie Station, the largest cotton producing property in the southern hemisphere, is close by.

It is located about 595 km's from Brisbane, which would take you about 7.5 hours to drive, and about 868 km's from Sydney, which would take you about 10 hours to drive.

In terms of harvest work, Dirranbandi is only really known for its cotton fields.

It is unlikely you will find any fruit picking work in the area, although you may find other types of farm related work available throughout the entire year. Wool production is also popular in the area, so you might find some work in a shearing shed.

The cotton season basically only lasts 3 months, with a little work to be found in March, and the bulk of the cotton picking and ginning occurring in April and May.

How to get to Dirranbandi

If you've found a job and need to get to Dirranbandi your options are a very limited. There are no direct flights from any of the major airline companies of Australia, and there is no public transport. Your only option is to drive.

If you are coming from Brisbane you can take either the Gore & Barwon Highway or the Warrego and Moonie Highway. Whichever you choose it is going to take about 8 hours to get there.

What to do in Dirranbandi

Dirranbandi is the gateway to the Culgoa Flood Plains National Park, noted for its prolific bird life. While you are there you should have a visit the Culgoa Flood Plains National Park.

You could also try off road driving and golfing to pass your spare time. And there is a lot of fishing, canoeing, camping to be found in the surrounding rivers and wetlands.
