Richmond is a very small country town, with an approximate population of 880 people. It is located just north of Hobart, in the state of Tasmania. It is situated on the Coal River, very close to the ocean.

Its postcode is 7025, which makes it an area eligible for backpackers and people wanting to come and work and travel Australia to extend their Working Holiday Visa to an Extended Working Holiday Visa.

It is located only 26 km's from Hobart, which should take about 30 minutes to drive depending on the traffic.

Best time to find fruit picking work in Richmond

Richmond grows a range of vegetables and fruits. You can often find work picking one of the fruit crops in December to January.

Also grown in the area is a large number of vegetables. You can almost always find work during January to June.

From July to November you may be able to find work picking vegetables, but it is not peak season and I recommend you organise a job before going in these months.

Due to its small size there are a limited number of accommodation options. What there is includes hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses.

Sometimes it is possible to stay on the farm or orchard, but you must organise this in advance as it is is often very limited.

However, considering it is only 26 kms from Hobart, you can always stay there and commute each day.
