Do you know how big this territory really is? Do you have no idea how long it will take to tour it? You must read this if planning to visit the Northern Territory!
For those of you who didn't already know, Australia is big, really big. It is hard to appreciate just how big the NT is from the map on this page, and you could be forgiven for thinking that the Northern Territory is not such a big place. But that would be a terrible mistake!
So the important questions are: Just how big is the it, and how long will it take to tour it?
It is the third biggest state or territory in Australia, smaller only to Western Australia and Queensland. It covers a massive 1,420,970 km², which is big... really big! This should help to put things in perspective for you.
If it was its own independent country, it would be ranked the 20th biggest in the world! That's right, it is larger than countries such as Peru, South Africa, Egypt and Pakistan. In fact, France would easily fit in there twice, Germany four times, and the entire United Kingdom almost fits a huge 6 times over!
In fact, the drive from Darwin on the north coast to the southern border is a massive 1,800 kms. That's more than the drive from London to Warsaw, which is 1,625 kms!
