Although South Australia is Australia's driest state, there is still plenty of fruit picking work to be found!

The Murray river enters from the east, providing a wealth of farms for backpackers to work. And there are many wineries providing grapes to make some of the best wine Australia has to offer.

Like the Northern Territory, any fruit picking, seasonal or harvest work done in South Australia counts towards your three months work for an extended visa.

Peak season is between November and March and the most common crops you will find are apples, cherries, citrus, grapes, pears, stone Fruit, and vegetables.

Fruit Picking in Adelaide

If you are looking for fruit picking jobs in Adelaide you are, in some respects, out of luck. Adelaide, like all capital cities in Australia, generally has no fruit picking work located directly within the city.

However, there are some towns and areas close by, some close enough that you can commute daily from Adelaide to. They include Nuriootpa (79 km's), Angaston (85 km's), Tanunda (73 km's), Lyndoch (66 km's), Langhorne Creek (78 km's), Mt Barker (34 km's) and the Mclaren Vale district (40 km's).

All of the above mentioned town grow grapes for the wine industry, and you can generally find work from about February to July, depending on the town and how the season is that year.
