For those of you who didn't already know, Australia is big, really big. It is hard to appreciate just how big South Australia is from the map on this page, and you could be forgiven for thinking that South Australia is not such a big place. But that would be a terrible mistake!

It is the 4th largest state or territory in Australia and covers a massive 1,043,514 km², which is big... really big! This should help to put things in perspective for you.
If it was its own independent country, it would be ranked the 29th biggest in the world! That's right, it is bigger than countries such as Egypt, Turkey, Chile, and Pakistan. In fact, it is almost twice as big as France, 3 times bigger than Germany, 4 times bigger than the entire United Kingdom, and a staggering 8 times bigger than England!
Many people drive from the capital city, Adelaide (on the southern coast of SA) up through the state and onto Alice Springs / Uluru (Ayers Rock) in the Northern Territory. The drive from Adelaide to the border is a massive 1,250 kms! Let me put this into perspective for you again:
