There are a few different Australian Business visa types. This page will just concentrate on the business people who need to come to Australia for a short stay to do some business, rather than those who are looking to come to Australia to start a business. If you are in the latter category, check out the official Australian Government Visa website.

Note: This visa does NOT permit you to work in Australia - they are strictly for business related purposes (attending educational or business related meetings, seminars, conventions, conferences, networking, and informal studies or training).

If you have any questions don't forget to Check out the Australian Business Visa Forum for more details.

Firstly, if you come from Europe you should apply for the eVistor visa. It is exactly the same as an eVisitor tourist visa, the same conditions and requirements.

Best of all it costs nothing and you can apply online. If you come from one of the eligible European eVisitor countries listed below, Check out the Australian Tourist Visas page and look for the details on the eVisitor visa.

If that's not you, then you will be interested in the ETA (Business Entrant)(Subclass 956 or Subclass 977) visa. And what's the difference? The Subclass 977 - Short Validity costs $20 AUD to apply for and is valid for a year from the date it is granted, and the Subclass 956 - Long Validity is valid for the life of the passport, but costs $105 AUD to apply for.

It should be noted that these visas allow you to stay in Australia for up to 3 months per visit, but are not intended for repeat lengthy stays in Australia. If you stay for 3 months, you really should leave for a full 3 months before coming back to be on the safe side.

If you need to stay for longer than 3 months you should consider another business visa on the official Australian Government Visa website.

It should be noted that ETA visas are electronically attached to the passport number you used when you applied for it. So that means you must travel with the same passport otherwise you will be refused entry into Australia. To be eligible for an ETA visa you must meet some requirements and obligations.

Vis Requirements

Tip: Check them off as you go to see if you meet them all!

  •   You MUST be outside of Australia when you apply for it AND still be outside of Australia on the date it is granted.
  •   You cannot work in Australia. So that means you are not allowed to earn a single cent.
  •   You cannot study (or do any kind of professional training) for longer than 3 month.
  •   You must not have tuberculosis when you enter Australia - if you do I highly suggest you go see a doctor!
  •   If you have criminal convictions in ANY country, you may be refused entry into Australia on these visas. If you have any convictions you should apply for the Business (Short Stay) visa (subclass 456).
  •   Whilst you do not have to have health insurance to enter Australia on this visa, it is highly recommended. If you come from United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Norway, Slovenia, Malta or Italy you are automatically covered under the Australian Reciprocal Health Care Agreements (RHCA). These entitle you to basic cover (i.e. dental and pre-existing conditions are NOT covered). Different countries have different restrictions, so you should view the Australian Medicare Website for full details.
  •   On the note of health insurance, it is also a good idea to get Travellers Insurance to cover such things as camera, laptops, cancelled flights, hotel rooms, etc. I have put together an excellent list of specialised details and things to consider on my Travel Insurance for Australia page. Check it out now!
  •   You must come from one of the approved countries listed below.

Congratulations, you should be fine to apply for this visa!
